Buddhasasana Fund
The Buddhasasana Fund is a government institution under the Ministry of Buddhasasana, governed by a control board including two-members of clergy and laity scholars appointed by the President. It is being implemented under Act No. 35 of 1990 with the funds donated from donors.
Advisory Committee of the Buddhasasana Fund
When any matter relating to using the powers of control board, making the functions is referred to the Advisory Committee for Assistance and Advisory, the Advisory Committee shall assist and advise the Board on those matters.

The Office of the staff of Buddhasasana Fund is being implemented under a Secretary at No. 135, Sir Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 07. An Accountant for Accounts and Financial Activities, 02 Development Officers as Assistant Staff and one Officer of the Public Management Service, 05 Development Officers from staff of the Ministry of Buddhasasana have been attached to carry out the functions of the Buddhasasana Fund.
Functions performed by the Buddhasasana Fund
- By the Buddhasasana Fund Act No. 35 of 1990
- Protecting the Buddhasasana and nurturing the Buddhasasana.
- Fundraising and Funding.
- Acceptance of local and foreign monetary funds and donations to the Fund.
- Issuing certificates required to exempt a temple from inland income tax in accordance with the donation made by Buddhasasana Fund to the temple.
- Printing of Dhamma books for the betterment of the Buddhasasana.
- Services provided by the Buddhasasana Fund for the improvement and perpetuation of the Buddhasasana
- Program to provide financial assistance for the maintenance of novice institutions
- Conducting the year end examination of novice institutions
- Sambuddhathva Jayanthi Samanera Scholarship Sponsorship Scheme
- Scholarship Scheme for Student Dasasil Mathas.
- Providing medical assistance to the sick and helpless monks according to the nature of the disease
- Providing practical training in regard of bhikku life to the monks who entered to clergy life at their old age.
- Providing assistance for the monks over 90 years of age
- Providing assistance for sanitary facilities for the temples with difficulties throughout the island
- Establishment of Institutes of Chinese Language and Cultural Studies
- Implementation of Buduputh Suraksha Health Program
Sources of financial influences of the Buddhasasana Fund
The Buddhasasana Fund raises funds for the activities of the Buddhasasana and contributes all the following monetary funds to the improvement of the financial strength of the Buddhasasana Fund
as the provisions made in Act No. 35 of 1990.
- Contributions made to the Fund by local donors.
- Financial contributions made by government institutions or consolidated fund
- Special donations to the Fund by foreign states and donors.
- Interest income on investments made by the Fund.
The contribution of donors is expected for the improvement of the Buddhasasana Fund and donations can be credited to the current account number 51002 maintained by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in the name of the Buddhasasana Fund. In addition, checks may be issued in the name of the Secretary-Buddhasasana Fund, if the donations are made by checks.
