Making effort to revive Telugu Cultural Center in Tambuttegama !
March 12th, 2024Hon. Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and a group of ministry officials went to the Telugu Cultural Center today (12) to investigate the condition of the crumbling Telugu Cultural Center in Ikiriwewa, Kudagama of Tambuttegama
This cultural center has been opened in 2011 to protect the heritage of Telugu people and it has lost the attraction of local and foreign tourists now due to its dilapidation
It was decided there to increase the income of the local people in that area and to provide the necessary facilities to maintain the cultural activities such as snake dance which they have been engaged till now in archaeological and tourist places before renovating this building
Also, the minister instructed officials to take over this land belonging to Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka to Divisional Secretariat of Tambuttegama
Father Moses, Pastor of the Lanka Deva Sabhawa Church, Mr. Thilak Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Prasad Ranasinghe, Cultural Promotion Director of the ministry, Mr. Sumith K. Somarathna, Divisional Secretary of Tambuttegama, leader of the Telugu community and the Telugu people, ministry officials and others participated in this occasion.
