I consider it as an enormous fortune of my political life being able to serve as the Minister of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs. The reason for it is that this Ministry is assigned with the responsibility to protect and foster Buddhasasana as entrusted in the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and shouldering the tremendous responsibility to bring Sri Lanka as a developed State with citizens filled with virtues by establishing religious reconciliation and equality while assuring the freedom and right to practice other religions. It is my belief that through the subject of cultural affairs also affiliated to this Ministry a tremendous task could be fulfilled representing the entire society deviating from differences of races and religions etc.
I very much appreciate the reverential Maha Sanga, all religious leaders including Hindu, Catholic and Muslim clergy who dedicate themselves for fulfilling the timely important essential responsibility regarding this huge developed task of steering Sri Lanka towards a leading State of the world as well as to all Sri Lankan citizens led by the staff of this Ministry for the mission being fulfilled by them.
I wish that all of us will receive the necessary strength and courage to produce a State with a virtuously developed culture while ascertaining the protection to Buddhasasana and respect for all religions and faiths.
Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and
