Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs mentioned this while participating in the opening ceremony of the new two-storied building of Kappinna Walawwa Pracheena Bhikshu Vidyalaya, Balapitiya recently. Maha Kappinna Walawwa in Balapitiya, popularly known as the home of the movie and teledrama named “Gamperaliya”, the new two-storied building of the Sri Lanka Oriental Bhikshu University was opened on last 17th. The opening program of this two-storied building was held under the chief admonition of Ven. Gomarankadawala Mahanayake Ananda Thero. All the activities of this program were carried out according to the admonitions and instructions of Ven. Siri Seevali Thero, the Chief Registrar of Amarapura Nikaya and Chief Incumbent in charge of sections of Kappinna Walawwa Oriental Bhikshu University.
Hon. Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs addressed the gathering on this occasion and offered his tribute to Mr. H. Dharmasiri De Silva and Mrs. De Silva and others who contributed to the construction of this building and everyone supported this including General Shavendra Silva, security forces and civil defense forces.
Speaking further, the Minister said that we are born as human beings, we live as human beings and we die as human beings, and many of the problems that our country is currently facing are occurring due to our lack of understanding and respect for each others. Be it culture, Buddhist philosophy, or our country, it will be in a very confused state if it is not for the Maha Sangha. He said that the Ven. Maha Sangha, the security forces and others have worked hard to protect the temples in the past and the temples have been protected till today because of the mission they have done then and he said that he is offering his tribute as the minister in charge of the subject.
It was pointed out the need to work together as the people of the country, regardless of racial and religious differences, in accordance with the law of the state and the law of Buddha at this time as some confusions are occurring. The minister also stated that all the necessary measures will be taken in a way that will not make people angry to overcome the challenges against the Buddha Dharma and the Buddha Shasana.
Mr. H. Dharmasiri de Silva, Head of the H.D.D.E.F. Group, has contributed the main provision for the construction of this building and the contribution of the security authorities and military officers also has been received. The dignified guests including the Chief of Defense Staff General Shavendra Silva, the Commander of the South and many people including local lay devotees were also present for the opening of this two-storied building.
