A series of lectures at the Udugampola Pathahapokuna Archaeological Office simultaneously to the 133rd National Archaeology Day…

The first day of the three-day workshop organized by the Western Provincial Archaeology Office of the Department of Archeology simultaneously to the 133rd National Archaeology Day began today (10) at the Udugampola Pathahapokuna Archaeology Office under the precedence of Hon. Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.

An introduction on Hela Wedakama and a field study introducing local medicinal plants was conducted here by the resource person, Mr. Amila Sanjeeva, indigenous doctor. Archaeologist Mrs. Nilanthi Bandara, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Archaeology of the University of Kelaniya, gave a lecture on the topic of indigenous medical treatments in ancient Sri Lanka, including health methods, hospitals, Janthagara, wells, ponds, doctors and laws followed for health etc.

Ven. Maha Sangha, Senior Prof. Anura Manathunga, former Director General of Archaeology, Mr. Viraj Sooriyabandara, Lecturer of the Cultural Studies Department of the University of Kelaniya, Archaeologist Douglas Bandara, Western Provincial Assistant Director, Architect Deepal Wijethilaka, Director of Promotion Division of the Department of Archaeology, Officials of the Western Provincial Office and Head Office of the Department of Archaeology and many university students also participated in this event.
