March 20th, 2024A committee was appointed to prepare the criteria regarding the removal of the plaques installed at Atamasthana without damaging the antiquities and a committee to prepare criteria for granting permission to external institutions and individuals for archaeological exploration activities today (20) in the Archeology Advisory Council discussion
These decisions were taken in the discussion held in the auditorium of the National Heritage Division under the precedence of Hon. Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.
Also, the committee made decisions on many matters such as construction of the multi-purpose building with Dharma Shala of Ruwanweliseya Temple and stopping the excavations to unearth monuments which is carried out from external allocations for 6 months,
Ven. Maha Sangha, Mrs. K. A. D. R. Nishanthi Jayasinghe, Additional Secretary of the National Heritage Division, Prof. D. Thusitha Mendis, Director General of Archaeology, Prof. Gamini Ranasinghe, Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, Professors, Lecturers, Heads of the Departments of History and Archaeology of Kelaniya, Sri Jayawardenepura, Jaffna and Peradeniya universities, officials of the Department of Archaeology and others joined in this event.
