March 19th, 2024130th birth anniversary of Mr. L. H. Meththananda, a famous former principal who brought about the new renaissance of Ananda Vidyalaya, was celebrated today (19) at Kularatne Hall of Ananda Vidyalaya in Colombo.
He served as the principal of the three major Buddhist schools of the island namely Ananda College and Nalanda College in Colombo and Dharmaraja College in Kandy. He is a great person who has performed an illustrious and indelible service as a teacher, principal as well as an educator.
Mr. L. H. Meththananda is also identified as the leader of the Buddhist National Force which started against the injustice that happened to the Buddhist students at that time.

Kotapitiye Sri Rahula Thero, Agga Maha Panditha, Maha Vihara Vansika Anunayaka of Sri Kalyani Samagri Maha Sangha Sabha of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, Dr. Balangoda Sobitha Thero, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Galle Western Disawa of Malwthu sect of Siyam Maha Nikaya, Prof. Iththademaliya Indasara Thero, Deputy Chief Sangha Nayaka of Southern Sri Lanka and a group of distinguished guests including Mr. Karu Jayasuriya, Former Speaker of the Parliament, Hon. Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, Member of the Parliament, Retired Major General Kamal Gunaratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Yasanta Kodagoda, Judge of the Supreme Court, Mr. Somarathna Vidanapathirana, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Prof. Praneeth Abhayasundara, Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Chairman of Bauddhaloka Foundation, Principals of Ananda and Nalanda Colleges joined for this occasion.
