A group of Sri Lankan Islamic devotees to Mecca …
May 21st, 2024The first group of 68 Sri Lankan Islamic pilgrims left for Saudi Arabia from Katunayake Airport early today (21) out of the 3,500 Islamic pilgrims who are to participate in the Hajj pilgrimage season in Mecca in 2024.
Out of that group, 34 were Muslim women and the remaining 34 were Muslim male pilgrims.
This group of pilgrims left today (21) at 05.15 a.m in the morning from flight G. 9503 of Air Arabia air service to Mecca and they are to be returned to Sri Lanka on 22nd June after worshiping at Mecca for 32 days.
Hon. Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Hon. Khaled Hammoud Al-Kahtani, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Ibrahim Sahib Ansar, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Haj Committee and others participated in the ceremony held at the departure terminal of the airport.
